Weekly Photo Wunderbar – Western Toad

This little guy is a Western Toad (Bufo borealis), freshly emerged from his home in a local lake in Central Oregon, USA. At only about one inch long, he’s lost his tail and is pondering his adventure into the meadow or forest, where he’ll grow and mature. After 4 or 5 years, he’ll wander back to the lake, belt out some toad-tastic tunes, find a lady friend, and make some tadpoles. That’s a ways off, though, and for now he’s content to just hide out in this hole until the coast is clear.
